History of Alumni Activities

-Launching the 1st SSEAYP (October 7th)

  1. -Opened the 1st On Board Ship Conference (OBSC)

Representatives from the alumni associations of each country gathered on the ship during SSEAYP ’78 and held a meeting in order to keep the network within each alumni association.
The OBSC has since been held each year with some minor changes.
-Released the annual newsletter, SSEAYP News
-Opened the 10th SSEAYP Anniversary reunion in Singapore organized by Singapore alumni association.  In this reunion, they agreed to establish the “SSEAYP Information Secretariat”.  It was also agreed that the member countries would exchange information every three months through the secretariat office, which was decided to be placed in one of the member countries in turns, and the secretariat country of the year would host the annual Information Secretariat Conference.

  1. –The 1st SSEAYP Information Secretariat Conference in Thailand.

There was a minor change from the agreement made in 1983 noted above: Only the SSEAYP International Secretariat country of the year and the following year’s secretariat country were invited for OBSC from this year to 1988.

  1. -The 2nd SSEAYP Information Secretariat Conference in Singapore
  2. -The 3rd SSEAYP Information Secretariat Conference in Indonesia

As Japan was concerned that there was less attention given to the annual meeting, it proposed to raise the status of the Conference and to create “the Charter” in order to strengthen the bound.

  1. -The 4th SSEAYP Information Secretariat Conference in Japan

Opened Asia Youth Forum 1987
Each alumni representative participated in the conference to draft the charter, and the attendees to the forum had a discussion entitled “Alumni Activities and the SSEAYP Program”.
Decided to set up SSEAYP International
           
1987　　-SSEAYP International was established, SI charter was enforced (September).
1988　　-The 1st SSEAYP International General Assembly (SIGA) in Malaysia
1989　　–The 2nd SIGA in Philippines
Reconfirmed the importance of SSEAYP International, representatives of all alumni associations were invited to OBSC.
1990　　-The 3rd SIGA in Brunei
1991　　-The 4th SIGA in Indonesia

1993　　–The 6th SIGA in Thailand
1994　　–The 7th SIGA in Japan
1995　　–The 8th SIGA in Malaysia
1996　　–The 9th SIGA in Philippines
–Representatives of each alumni association have been observing the Conference of the Representatives of the Nine Southeast Asian Countries and Japan (May Conference) from this year.
1997　　–The 10th SIGA in Brunei
1998　　–Essay Contest was held in conjunction with 25th anniversary of SSEAYP in each alumni association including Vietnam, which is an observer.  The common theme was “Leadership of Asia in the 21st Century.
   -The 11th SIGA in Philippines.
1999   -The 12th SIGA in Singapore.
-SI Homepage was launched.
-SSEAYP International Photo Exhibition was held at every port of call in SSEAYP 99.
2000    -The 13th SIGA in Indonesia
2001    –The 14th SIGA in Thailand
2002    –The 15th SIGA in Japan
2003    –Vietnam became an associate member of SSEAYP International.
-The 16th SIGA was postponed due to outbreak of SARS.
2004   - The 16th SIGA in Malaysia
2005   - The 17th SIGA in Vietnam
