-Launching the 1st SSEAYP (October 7th)
Representatives from the alumni associations of each country gathered on the ship during SSEAYP ’78 and held a meeting in order to keep the network within each alumni association.
There was a minor change from the agreement made in 1983 noted above: Only the SSEAYP International Secretariat country of the year and the following year’s secretariat country were invited for OBSC from this year to 1988.
As Japan was concerned that there was less attention given to the annual meeting, it proposed to raise the status of the Conference and to create “the Charter” in order to strengthen the bound.

1993 –The 6th SIGA in Thailand 1994 –The 7th SIGA in Japan 1995 –The 8th SIGA in Malaysia 1996 –The 9th SIGA in Philippines –Representatives of each alumni association have been observing the Conference of the Representatives of the Nine Southeast Asian Countries and Japan (May Conference) from this year. 1997 –The 10th SIGA in Brunei 1998 –Essay Contest was held in conjunction with 25th anniversary of SSEAYP in each alumni association including Vietnam, which is an observer. The common theme was “Leadership of Asia in the 21st Century. -The 11th SIGA in Philippines. 1999 -The 12th SIGA in Singapore. -SI Homepage was launched. -SSEAYP International Photo Exhibition was held at every port of call in SSEAYP 99. 2000 -The 13th SIGA in Indonesia 2001 –The 14th SIGA in Thailand 2002 –The 15th SIGA in Japan 2003 –Vietnam became an associate member of SSEAYP International. -The 16th SIGA was postponed due to outbreak of SARS. 2004 - The 16th SIGA in Malaysia 2005 - The 17th SIGA in Vietnam |
